FOR IMMEDIATE PUBLICATION

Gary, Indiana (December 16, 2019): Surrounded by Indiana House District 3 residents, advocates and elected officials, Gary native, Jessica Renslow, announced her official candidacy for State Representative Monday at the Gary Public Library and Cultural Center. She is an Instructional Designer and Business Strategist with a history of creating and implementing quality of life goals with the people of Indiana House District 3.
Renslow is known for her grassroots leadership across Gary, Lake Station, New Chicago and Hobart. She was born and raised in the heart of INHD3, attended public schools and put herself through Ball State’s Japanese language/ culture and Telecommunications Production programs. Her salary grant officially ended in 2018, but she has continued to promote collective impact across INHD3 as a volunteer by collaborating within the Neighborhood Spotlight footprints and expanding outreach to Lake Station and New Chicago.
Some recent projects include helping 150local businesses connect with the IDOA’s Division of Supplier Diversity to facilitate a Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) and Women’s Business Enterprise (WBE) Certification Program at The Stage Gary Small Business Incubator and Coworking Site, helping bring a universally designed kayak launch/ fishing pier to Lake Station, promoting wellness initiatives in Hobart Township and advocating for educational policy reform in Indianapolis.

Thank You from the Friends of Jessica Renslow

Thank you to the #Renslow4Rep dream team for donating your time, talents and treasures.
Our record speaks for itself 19 public events and 3 house parties in six months across all of #INHD3.
We got over 41% of the vote running a purely grassroots, positive, volunteer based campaign against some pretty big odds.

Please stay engaged and demand present leadership for Gary, Lake Station, New Chicago and Hobart. We are worth it. We need to demand it.

Issue Paper 1: Transportation and Infrastructure

Universally designed public transportation and infrastructure is a integral part of the solution to our economic and environmental challenges. Smart growth means incorporating inclusive public transit, structures and programs, which will help us rejuvenate our business districts, allow area employers to tap into larger workforces and increase our property values.

These volunteers received a $25,000 grant and fundraised the remaining project costs, while collaborating with multiple community partners to implement the project in a record-breaking 6 months.)

Our nation is transitioning into being a country where in the not so distant future, our oldest and youngest populations combined will compose 43% of the US. Indiana House District 3 will not escape this trend. Gary, Lake Station, New Chicago and Hobart need to create sustainable communities, wherein our youth and elders can both thrive.

If elected, Jessica Renslow will fight to:

  • Create life-long communities so that our seniors can remain in their homes and our House District 3 entrepreneurs can create cottage industries to help service this ever-growing population.
  • Connect our blue and greenways with infrastructure that infuses our economy.
  • Advocate for active transportation initiatives that raise our community health index, thus improving the quality of life in HD3 and lowering medical expenses.
  • Ensuring HD3 residents are afforded employment opportunities to help rebuild the region by monitoring/ maintaining compliance of our local and targeted hiring programs.
